Breastfeeding + Road Tripping

Breastfeeding on the Road

The pandemic changed travel, but thanks to science, the U.S. is open for business—and pleasure—again.

Hitting the road for a couple of hours, a day or a few? Here’s a list—and a game plan—to stay safe and keep things sanitary while breastfeeding on the road. Whether you’ve got baby on board or back at home, don’t forget to bring these COVID-era essentials.

  • Masks. Be prepared and slip a mask in your pocket or bag so you’re ready for anything.

  • Sanitizing supplies. Hand sanitizer and disposable wipes (we like Medela’s pump and accessory wipes) can offer some extra peace of mind out in the world.

  • A lightweight scarf or shawl. This versatile accessory can serve as a cover option in a parked car or at a rest stop.

  • Easy healthy snacks. Snacks are KEY for road trips. Prevent bouts of hanger and keep morale high by stocking up on healthy snacks (e.g. granola bars, nuts) and road trip pleasures. (We highly recommend dark chocolate).

  • Plenty of water and a refillable water bottle. Breastfeeding moms need to stay hydrated. Bring along a couple of gallons of water to make on-the-go refills easy.

If you plan to pump along the way (or at your destination), don’t leave home without these necessary (or helpful) items.

  • Hands-free pumping bra. Pro tip: put it on before leaving the house to minimize hassle.

  • Breast pump. Pro tip: Simplify life by connecting the parts and bottles ahead of time.

  • Extra milk storage bags

  • Extra batteries

  • Insulated cooler and ice-packs

  • Power adaptor for car

  • Manual pump (because you just never know 🤷🏽‍♀️)
