Mamava's 2024 Best Airports for Breastfeeding Parents

Airports are often ranked on customer service, on-time arrival rates, and overall passenger amenities. But when you’re a breastfeeding traveler, what you really need is a private place where you can pump or nurse.

Air travel has improved for breastfeeding people in recent years thanks to federal legislation like the Friendly Airports for Mothers Act (and the Friendly Airports for Mothers Improvement Act) which require all airports to have a lactation space in every terminal! But these 10 airports really go the extra mile to provide even more private spaces to pump or nurse on the go.

Pro travel tip: Use the Mamava app to find lactation spaces (not just Mamava pods!) in all these airports—plus thousands of other pump-and-nursing-friendly places—wherever you go!

1) Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD)

Breastfeeding parents traveling to and from the Windy City have access to a total of 22 lactation spaces! ORD provides 10 Mother’s Rooms and 12 Mamava pods—all open 24/7. If you’re flying with little ones, you’ll find convenient baby and travel essentials vending machines in Terminal 3 (Main Hall, K1) and in Terminal 2 (Main Hall, Gare H1), as well as a play area in the Family Lounge in Terminal 2.

2) Orlando International Airport (MCO)

MCO sees many traveling families, but with the addition of a new terminal and train station in 2022 it’s become an especially welcoming airport for breastfeeding parents. MCO now has 19 lactation spaces with 15 Nursing Rooms (including the train station) and four Mamava pods. MCO also prides itself on its collection of art exhibits for the whole family.

3) Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC)

SLC now offers robust support for breastfeeding parents across two concourses. With 17 lactation rooms—called Mother’s Rooms—created as private spaces within or near most of the women’s restrooms, travelers can easily find a private space to pump or nurse.

4) Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR)

Traveling parents will now find 16 lactation spaces—eight called Nurseries/Nursing Rooms and eight Mamava pods—throughout the airport. Newark’s new Terminal A is home to interactive play areas and art exhibits.

5) John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK)

JFK knows how to support traveling breastfeeding parents with 15 lactation spaces (11 Mamava pods and four Nursing Rooms) across six terminals. If you’re traveling with little ones, check out the JetBlue Junior Children’s Play Area in Terminal 5.

6) San Francisco International Airport (SFO)

The city famous for the gold rush is also home to an airport that supports the (liquid) gold of breastfeeding parents. SFO has 14 lactation spaces —11 rooms called Nurseries (most require using airport courtesy phones to request access) and six Mamava pods. Family-friendly activities include a variety of interactive “Kids’ Spots” in both Terminal 2 and 3.

7) Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL)

ATL has 13 lactation spaces—all Mamava pods—throughout six concourses for private spaces to pump or nurse. While ATL doesn’t currently have many family-designated amenities, kids will love the 450-foot-long rain forest walk—complete with trees made of LED lights and recordings of birds—between concourses A and B.

8) LaGuardia Airport (LGA)

Tied with ATL, traveling breastfeeding parents will be relieved to know that LGA also has 13 lactation spaces (12 Nursing Rooms and one Mamava pod) throughout their four redesigned terminals. For parents traveling with little ones, check out the play area in Terminal B.

9) Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX)

PHX has 12 lactation spaces—six Mamava pods and six Mother’s Rooms. If you’re traveling with kiddos, you’ll find a children’s play area (Play-viation Park) in Terminal 3. PHX also offers family-friendly parking spaces in the East Economy Parking area and garage.

*About our best airports: We know It’s not always possible to choose your airport. We started with the busiest large airports to increase the odds of helping the most parents. From there, airports needed to have at least 10 lactation spaces to make our list.

**Updated October 8, 2024. We do our best to keep this list accurate and up to date, but airports are frequently under construction. We recommend checking the airport’s website for information regarding any changes to their lactation space amenities.
