How to Fund a Mamava Pod
You need a lactation space and a freestanding Mamava pod is the perfect fit for your needs. Now you just need to find the funds. If this sounds like you, you’re not alone. Schools, nonprofits, and other organizations are financially stretched thin, but must comply with legal mandates requiring lactation accommodations. And they also want to support breastfeeding people. Many of our customers have come up with creative ways to fund a Mamava pod. To support your efforts, we’d like to share them with you.
Federal + State Grants
Grant resources change frequently, but they are always a smart place to start:
Check the Administration for Children & Families for grants serving families, children, and communities (available for both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations).
The Department of Health and Human Services offers grants for educational and community organizations.
State departments of public health often have initiatives and grants aimed at improving maternal health and well-being. The University of Alaska Anchorage received a grant to fund a Mamava pod through Alaska’s Division of Public Health's section of Women's, Children's and Family Health.
Breastfeeding Coalitions
Breastfeeding coalitions are often the first to know of grants that support maternal and infant health initiatives. The North Dakota Department of Health worked with their state breastfeeding coalition to fund lactation pods in public places around the state. Find your local coalition at the United States Breastfeeding Committee’s coalition directory.
Insurance Companies + Healthcare Networks
Sponsoring a pod is a powerful way for local health insurance providers and healthcare networks to directly support breastfeeding parents and help improve health outcomes. UC Health supported breastfeeding in their community by sponsoring Mamava pods in Denver arenas. Explore local sponsorship opportunities for a Mamava pod in your city and state.
Creative Funding
The sky’s the limit when coming up with creative ways to raise money for a good cause. Here are some inspiring ways folks found the funds to place Mamava pods:
Pinnacle Health in Pennsylvania used the revenue generated from their annual fashion show to fund four Mamava pods.
The Tiger Moms of Auburn University—in partnership with the Auburn University School of Nursing, Lactation Services at East Alabama Medical Center, and Auburn Athletics—held a fundraiser to place a Mamava in their stadium.
An Alabama library received a partial grant from their local hospital and made up the difference by advertising for donations in the children’s book section!
GoFundMe Campaigns are a powerful way to highlight the need in your organization and invite community support.
Student Government Associations have contributed funding for Mamava pods at a number of colleges and universities, including University of Northern Colorado, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and Minot State University.
